On March 23, 2024 we held a Critica Event which was both a poetry reading and an art show that showcased art and poetry that had been in the various issues for the last three years. It was a magical night filled with images and the timbre of the poet’s voices. For many, it was the first opportunity to be together in person since the pandemic. It was a well-attended event that completely filled the PINC space with standing room only. The festivities included a wonderful video by Sandra Bacchi pairing some of the poetry with some of the images in unique and interesting ways. Carolina Bacchi introduced the event and spoke about the aims of Critica. Dawn Shifreen-Pomerantz was the Master of Ceremonies and introduced each of the ten poets before they recited their poems. Before and after the event attendees were free to roam and peruse the artworks there. Refreshments were served. Many people commented on the vibrancy of the artwork and the contrast between the sizes they imagined the art works to be versus what they actually were. The atmosphere we created was both exciting, thoughtful and reverent and people there commented that they would like to see more of these type events at PINC. We at Critica, are planning to do two events like this one, per year in the future.
