Ever since early childhood, when my older brother explained the phenomena of gravity to me, I have been captivated by the idea of it. This triggered a lifelong love and interest in physics, of the soul of things, and how our physical reality is bound by immutable laws.

A few years ago, I started to photograph simple objects being subjected to and competing against the forces of gravity. Over time ideas for more pictures kept coming and by 2018 I had a set of twelve images. The scenes were all constructed in my studio as depicted in the final image, with no digital trickery involved. All these photographs were shot on film with an 8×10 view camera, contact printed onto traditional silver gelatin paper.

Six selected photographs from the series “Gravity.”
